Do you back up N8N? They say that people fall into 2 types: those who STILL don't back up and those who ALREADY do. I used to make backups at the OS level, but that required setting it up and then monitoring it. Then I thought: why not make backups of N8N by N8N itself? And I quickly created a workflow for this. Now, setting up backups on a new N8N instance has become much easier — just create a workflow. And there’s now a way to monitor the process, since I set it up to send files via email (though you can configure it to send anywhere — to Telegram, Git, or elsewhere), and if the files don’t arrive, I immediately notice. Drop some reactions or comments if this topic interests you and you want me to share the workflow 😉

Summary

This post discusses the importance of backing up data, highlighting the common divide between those who haven't yet implemented backups and those who already do. The author shares their experience of transitioning from OS-level backups, which require manual setup and monitoring, to a more streamlined approach using N8N, an automation tool. They developed a custom N8N workflow to automate backups within the platform itself, simplifying the process for new instances. This method not only makes backups easier to set up but also enhances monitoring capabilities. The workflow is configured to send backup files via email, with options to customize delivery methods such as Telegram or Git, ensuring immediate notification if backups fail. The post encourages engagement by inviting reactions and comments from readers interested in the workflow, emphasizing the benefits of automating backups within N8N for improved reliability and efficiency.
