The Paradox in IT Talking to many people who want to develop an IT solution for themselves (a website, chatbot, etc.), as well as with owners of outstaffing companies, I have long been pondering one paradox. Everyone wants to consult only experienced doctors, have their car serviced only by experienced mechanics, want their house to be designed by specialists with experience, and repairs to be done by skilled craftsmen. And it's clear why: everyone wants their work to be done qualitatively thanks to the expertise and experience of the specialists, so they don't have to pay more later to redo everything. But in IT, for some reason, this principle doesn’t work: everyone wants to find cheaper specialists, and they absolutely don’t care about their experience. No one considers that a specialist without proper experience will do everything much slower, overlook a huge number of nuances, which will make system support much more expensive later. I won’t even mention security of solutions, because neither beginner specialists nor even experienced ones often have enough expertise in this area. As a result, websites get hacked and data is stolen. Who can tell me why this is? 😀

Summary

The article explores a paradox in the IT industry where, unlike other fields such as medicine, automotive repair, or architecture, clients often prioritize cost over experience when hiring IT specialists. While in most professions, people prefer to pay more for skilled and experienced professionals to ensure quality, in IT, there is a tendency to seek cheaper, less experienced developers and technicians. This approach can lead to numerous issues, including slower project completion, overlooked details, increased maintenance costs, and security vulnerabilities, such as hacking and data breaches. The author emphasizes that lack of experience can result in subpar solutions that require costly rework and pose security risks, ultimately making the entire system support more expensive in the long run. The article questions why this paradox exists, highlighting the importance of valuing expertise in IT to avoid future problems and ensure the development of secure, reliable, and efficient solutions.
