How I Save Companies Hundreds of Thousands of Rubles — and Don’t Make Money from It Today I’ll share one of the latest cases where I could have earned money from development, but instead: I saw that the client came up with a solution to their problem themselves (which actually doesn’t solve it), and I offered an alternative that ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of rubles — and I didn’t earn a dime. Recently, a company approached me that wanted to implement an AI assistant on the homepage of their website. They had already contacted a contractor before and decided to get my opinion as well. The first contractor estimated the development at 350,000 rubles, plus 100,000 rubles for each iteration of the assistant’s refinement. In the end, the cost could have grown significantly. When I joined the project and started gathering information, I concluded that developing such an assistant might not lead to the results it was intended for. I also saw that the hypothesis could be tested much faster and cheaper using existing resources, which I suggested to the client. Result: the hypothesis was indeed incorrect, and developing the AI assistant would have been a pointless waste of time and money. In the end, the client saved at least 150,000 rubles (the cost of my work), and I didn’t earn anything even from the analysis and finding the optimal solution 😀 P.S. By the way, this is a very common problem — when solutions are invented like in an old joke: “we look where it’s light, not where we lost it.”

Summary

This article recounts a case where an SEO and development expert helped a company avoid unnecessary expenses by providing a cost-effective solution. The client sought to implement an AI assistant on their website, having previously contacted another contractor who estimated the project at 350,000 rubles, with additional costs for iterative refinements. Upon reviewing the project, the expert identified that developing the AI assistant might not deliver the desired results and proposed testing the hypothesis using existing resources, which was faster and cheaper. This approach revealed that the initial hypothesis was incorrect, saving the client at least 150,000 rubles—equivalent to the expert's own fee—without earning any direct income. The story highlights a common issue where companies invest in solutions based on assumptions rather than verified needs, often leading to unnecessary costs. The expert emphasizes the importance of critical analysis and testing ideas before committing significant resources, ultimately saving clients money and time. This case underscores the value of strategic consulting and cost-effective problem-solving in digital projects, demonstrating that sometimes, the best decision is to avoid unnecessary development altogether.
